To the Bones
exhibition until 13 September 2026
The special exhibition ‘To the Bones’, held at the Museum of Nature and Environment, focuses on bones and skeletons. It provides an insight into animal evolution, anatomy and physiology, and the processes involved in the petrification of bones.
The museum's largest skeleton belongs to a sperm whale. A wide variety of objects from the museum’s zoological collections are on display, many of which are being exhibited for the first time. There are also selected bone artefacts from the Cultures of the World collection of the LÜBECKER MUSEEN, as well as local finds from the city’s archaeological and heritage conservation department. Visitors can also look forward to seeing the bone creature 'Leviathan' by the artist Käthe Wenzel.
